In June 2022, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) was founded as a higher education institution governed jointly by the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The university is situated in the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, a highly active and vibrant region in the world. The State Council of the People’s Republic of China has issued the « Overall Plan of Nansha of Guangzhou for Deepening the Comprehensive Global Cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, » which has aided in the establishment and growth of the university.
